| Q: I am using Dialogic telephony board with CT Messenger.
How do I set it up to work properly? |
 |
A: To setup a Dialogic telephony board follow these steps:
1. Install Dialogic Software 5.1.1. Run "Setup.exe" from the Dialogic
System Release CD or download. Select the "Custom" option. Select "GlobalCall". If
you already installed Dialogic software without GlobalCall, run setup again
and install GlobalCall.
2. Run the "Dialogic Board Configuration" from the Windows Start menu. This
program is also known as "Dialogic Configuration Manager (DCM)". The first
time you run DCM, you may see a "computer name" dialog box. Select "local"
and hit the "connect" button. The Dialogic board should automatically be
detected and be on your screen. Select the menu option "Service -> Startup
Mode -> Automatic". Close Dialogic Configuration Manager. Reboot the
computer.
3. Bring up the Windows Control Panel. Select "Phone and Modem Options".
Click the "Advanced" tab. Click "Add". Select "Dialogic Generation 2
Service Provider for NT". Press OK to save your changes and return to the Windows
Control Panel.
4. Select "Add/Remove Hardware". Select "Add/Troubleshoot a device". Choose
"Add a new device". Select "No, I want to select the hardware from a list".
Select Hardware Type "Sound, video and game controllers". Click the button
"Have Disk". Browse to "C:\Program Files\Dialogic\Lib". Click on the
"oemsetup.inf" file and click Open. "Dialogic Wave Driver 1.x" should now
be listed. Complete the installation by clicking Next twice and saying "yes"
to the digital signature message. Point to "DLGWAVE.DLL" if it asks in the
"C:\Program Files\Dialogic\LIB folder. Verify that the "Number of Channels"
is greater than zero (>0). Open Dialogic Wave driver settings. Change
receive buffer to 1024. Press OK to save your changes and return to the
Windows Control Panel. Restart the computer.
5. Start CT Messenger's Configurator. Select Audio Format 11KHz 8Bit on the
General tab. Go to Telephony Devices tab and click Add. You should see
Dialogic's analog lines 1-4 listed. Select the line you want to use and
click Next. Do not change any properties (connect delay - 0 msec, software
answer detection - no). Restart the computer.

| Q: What modems do you recommend to use with CT Messenger? |
 |
A: Recommended modems are:
We recommend AOpen FM56-EXV, AOpen FM56-PX, AOpen FM56-SVV
(http://www.aopen.com/products/modem/), Zoom Voice Modems or
USRobotics/3Com voice modems.
We do not recommend Creative Labs modems because they have numerous
driver problems.
Unfortunately, reliability and performance of voice modems vary with every
version of modem's firmware and driver. Output sound quality of voice
modems vary greatly: some modems sound ok, some have noisy output, some have low
output level.
External modems usually perform better than internal. Special
telephony boards like Dialogic have very good analog part and provide good
output volume. The output is noise free with very low distortions.
For large volume application or if quality and reliability are important we always
recommend special telephony boards like Dialogic D4/PCI

| Q: My modem starts playing a message before a call is answered. What can I do? |
 |
|
A: Most modems can't determine when the phone is picked up, that's why we
implemented Software Answer detection. Please enable Software Answer
Detection in Configurator and adjust Silence Level for optimal detection.
Lowering Silence Level increases likehood of false detection (speech starts
before someone answers). Higher Silence Level requires higher voice volume
to start a speech. The usual optimum is 25-35db.
